What I read in June (2024)
Reading /
This is the shortest reading log I’ve had for months!! One book was dense nonfiction and another was 650 pages. I’ve also been writing more this month.
Greta & Valdin by Rebecca K Reilly (NZ fiction, beautiful book, some lols)
The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk MD (quite dense throughout the first half but full of good information and becomes less dense towards the second half)
The Bee Sting by Paul Murray (650-page Irish fiction, absolutely fantastic)
Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach (I only got through half of this, had to return it to the library, but I will get it out again to finish it. It’s really good and worth reading slowly. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it if you don’t already have some interest in meditation, but if you do, definitely worth reading).
Listening /
When I’m doing gardening work I listen to podcasts —
This month, as usual, I’ve been listening to Tim Ferris and Andrew Huberman’s podcasts. They interview so many fantastic people with much knowledge to share. To name a few I’ve listened to this month:
Mary Karr (The Liars Club), Jerry Seinfeld (actually really good), Cal Newport (Deep Work), Craig Foster (My Octopus Teacher), Maria Popova (The Marginalian) and Dr. Gabor Mate (The Myth of Normal).
I also tried out Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s podcast Wiser Than Me which is lighter but lovely. Interviews with Isabelle Allende and Gloria Steinem were favorites.
