Mixed Signals
Mixed Signals documents a year of mixed blessings and jammed frequencies. A year in which I dreamed of tsunamis and had the wherewithal to wonder what was coming. A year in which I talked myself through a loved one’s diagnosis, a sudden death, a miscarriage. A year of bracing. A year of the mind leaping ahead and the body lagging, arguing.
In creating the eight works that make up Mixed Signals, each vibrating with layers of colour and gestural strokes, I reset the scrambled frequencies within my body. Each work is a still frame capture of this gradual alchemy — difficulty morphing over time into clarity and congruency. Each work is a reminder to let the body, even in its slowness, lead.
