Bio + CV

Anne Marie Basquin is a writer and artist based in Leigh near Te Hāwere-a-Maki in Aotearoa New Zealand. She grew up in the Midwest and Great Lakes region of the US and Ōtepoti Dunedin in the South Island of Aotearoa. She moved to the Hauraki Gulf in 2021.

She has a BFA in Printmaking from the Dunedin School of Fine Arts and a Master of Creative Writing from the University of Auckland. Her work has been exhibited around Aotearoa and published in the anthologies Strong Words 4, Poto | Short and Hoot!, in the academic journal Junctures, in the photobook whispering bird song, and online in Flash Frontier and The Golden Key.

Selected Work Experience

Gardener, Self-employed and Contractor for Inside Out Homecare Services. Leigh & surrounds, 2021-Present

Assistant Project Coordinator, Te Kohuroa Rewilding Initiative. TKRI is a community-led conservation initiative based at Te Kohuroa Matheson Bay. Over the summer of 24/25, TKRI implemented their pilot project, removing an overabundance of kina to support kelp reforestation around the island. The harvested kina were distributed to the community and composted at the reserve to be used to support future planting. I was paid for my coordination services and worked as an in-water volunteer throughout the summer. Leigh, Summer 2024/2025
